Lake Travis, Westlake and Del Valle all picked up their second District 15-5A last week while Bowie’s rough start continued.
Del Valle, behind running back Josh Cleveland’s big night, put away Anderson 54-17 to remain in a tie for first place. The Cardinals have done what they need to do to put themselves in playoff contention, but the second half of the season will tell all. The Cardinals must face the district favorites – Lake Travis and Westlake, as well as the two teams they figure to compete against for the final two playoff spots – Bowie and Austin High. The Cardinals have a week to think about things. They are idle this week before beginning their gauntlet against Westlake on Oct. 19.
Westlake put up another big week, thrashing Akins 68-7. The Westlake Picayune has all the details. With a win over Bowie already, the Chaps play Anderson and Del Valle before enjoying their bye week to prep for Lake Travis, with the showdown set for Nov. 2.
Lake Travis passed another test, overcoming a 14-7 halftime deficit to defeat Bowie 24-14. My report from the Lake Travis View. Shaun Nixon scored three times and Hunter Streuling’s key interception stopped Bowie’s last real chance to keep the Cavaliers unbeaten in district play. Still recovering from injuries with young players trying to grow up on the job, the Cavaliers should see two easy weeks with Akins and Anderson on the immediate horizon. If Lake Travis takes care of its business, all eyes will be on the Nov. 2 showdown with Westlake.
